Mesotherapy has long been used in aesthetic medicine as a procedure of rejuvenation. In doing so, it has been found to work very well to promote hair growth. Targeted micro-injections into the mesoderm (middle layer of the skin) promote blood circulation, positively influence hydration and nutrition of the scalp and thus help hair growth and improve hair quality. By injecting the active ingredients directly into the scalp, mesotherapy is delivered precisely to the desired areas, maximizing its effectiveness.

Mesotherapy consists in injection of a solution enriched with vitamins, minerals, amino acids, stem cells, peptides and enzymes. These have a positive effect on the hydration and nourishment of the scalp and thus contribute to better hair growth.

The second, perhaps even more important function of hair mesotherapy is to neutralize excess DHT (dihydrotestosterone), a hormone that shrinks hair follicles and causes premature hair loss. By neutralizing it, the hair can grow longer and thus hair thickening occurs.

Mesotherapy for hair loss

Studies on the effectiveness of mesotherapy in treating hair loss have shown promising results. The treatment has been found to be particularly effective in cases of androgenetic alopeciathe most common form of hair loss, in both men and women. Mesotherapy may also be beneficial for other types of hair loss, such as alopecia areata or telogen effluvium.

“Personally, I have had 4 mesotherapy treatments to prevent postpartum hair loss. The results were good, I didn’t even notice any intense hair loss.

I also have hair mesotherapy applied in the spring and fall to minimize the effects of seasonal hair loss.”

Facts

  • Mesotherapy is an injectable method of promoting hair growth
  • Contains substances that nourish the scalp and hair follicles
  • It is applied to the scalp to get the substances where they are needed
  • And this stimulates hair growth

What does mesotherapy include?

The solution injected during mesotherapy usually contains ingredients that promote hair growth, such as vitamins (e.g., A, B, E, C), minerals, amino acids, and sometimes some antiandrogens and vasodilators. These active ingredients act on the hair follicle, especially on the dermal papilla cells, which play a key role in the hair growth cycle.

  • Vitamins and minerals: They are essential for nourishing hair follicles and promoting healthy hair growth. Vitamins A, B, E, C are the most abundant
  • Amino acids: The building blocks of proteins that strengthen hair structure
  • Growth factors: Stimulate cell growth and regeneration
  • DHT blockersA: Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is a major cause of androgenetic alopecia, blockers can help prevent miniaturization of hair follicles

Hair mesotherapy is a great way to promote hair growth. It is not a procedure that should directly treat hair loss, but works great as a treatment supplement. Its non-invasive nature, minimized risk of side effects and ability to act exactly where it is needed make it a suitable choice for many patients. However, it is always important to consult with your doctor to ensure that this procedure is appropriate and safe for you.

Treatment results of my patients

Telogen Effluvium, female, 32 years old

This patient came to me with significant hair loss in the temple and corners of her scalp. After we discussed the options, the patient opted for a combination of topical prescription medications supplemented with hair mesotherapy. Excellent result after 3 months.

The truth and myths about the treatment of hair loss with mesotherapy

On the internet you can read a lot of half-truths and misleading information about the use of hair mesotherapy in the treatment of hair loss or various types of alopecia.

Mesotherapy as the most effective way to treat hair loss

Although mesotherapy has a noticeable effect on promoting hair growth and improving hair condition, it is not a miracle procedure that will make you grow a lion’s mane, as some clinics present it. Unfortunately.

Mesotherapy in combination with oral or topical drugs (minoxidil, finasteride and others) has the greatest success in treating hair loss. Alternatively, as monotherapy in specific cases such as seasonal hair loss in spring and autumn or hair loss after childbirth.

Hair mesotherapy is painless

It is not painless, but the pain is minimal. After all, it is an injection of the solution into the scalp. And scalp area is very sensitive. Patients feel a slight pain when injected or pressure when the solution is injected into the skin.

Differences in application and type of mesotherapy

Of course, there are also differences in the application and type of different mesotherapies. It depends on the quality of application. To be effective, mesotherapy must be applied in the right places, with the right spacing between injections and to the right layer of the scalp.

No two mesotherapies are the same

The type, composition and quantity of the solution applied play another important role. There are a large number of mesotherapies. Some are suitable for the scalp, others for the face, décolleté, hands…

Each pharmaceutical company has its own way of producing mesotherapy. Some are with hyaluronic acid, others have more minerals, others more vitamins. And of course each offers their products at different price points , which is why there is such a disparity in the price of the application. There is no mesotherapy like mesotherapy.

Treatment results of my patients

Seasonal hair loss, female, 43 years old

The patient suffers from significant seasonal hair loss in the area above the forehead and “corners”. Resulting effect after 2 months of treatment.

How mesotherapy treatment works step by step

The basis of everything is a detailed medical history and a correct diagnosis. Mesotherapy is not suitable for every patient and for every diagnosis. For some patients, better results can be achieved with another treatment method, for some patients mesotherapy is not possible at all.

Therefore, it is not possible to make an appointment for hair mesotherapy directly, you must always come to my clinic for an initial consultation. We will discuss your medical history together, diagnose your problem and then discuss whether or not mesotherapy is a suitable solution for you.

  • Before treatment

Before the application, you do not need to deal with the preparation or drop off the medication, it is only advisable to come with washed hair.

  • The treatment itself

The application is very simple. You’re gonna lay back in the exam chair, relax, and we’re ready to get started. Mesotherapy is injected into the targeted areas of the scalp using a very fine mesotherapy needle. The application is only minimally painful.

  • After treatment

In 20-30 minutes it’s done and you can go home or to work. The procedure is non-invasive and no recovery is required. Ideally, you should not exercise for a day after the application (the scalp is more sensitive and could be painful) and it is also a good idea to avoid excessive sweating (sauna, solarium, intense sports) until the needle puncture wounds are completely healed, i.e. at least 3 days. Do not wash your hair for at least a day after the application. It is advisable to protect yourself from direct sunlight for 3 days.

  • Variants to treat hair loss with plasmatherapy

My other favourite option for the supportive treatment of hair loss is plasmatherapy, where a small amount of blood is taken from the patient, from which platelet-enriched plasma is evaporated and then injected into the scalp. You can read more about plasma therapy in this article.

“Mesotherapy promotes the growth of healthy and strong hair. It is an effective adjunct to the treatment of androgenetic alopecia, telogen effluvium or alopecia areata. It combines very well with treatment with minoxidil, finasteride or dutasteride.

One application in my office costs CZK 4,500 and a package of 4 treatments costs CZK 15,000.”

Advantages, disadvantages and contraindications of mesotherapy

Benefits

Mesotherapy is minimally invasive. Unlike surgical procedures, mesotherapy does not involve any incisions or anesthesia, only tiny microneedle punctures. Another advantage is the short recovery time . Patients can usually return to their daily activities shortly after the procedure. And of course promotes scalp health and hair growth. It also addresses basic skin problems such as poor circulation and minor inflammation.

Disadvantages

Mesotherapy, to be ideally effective, requires multiple sessions. The optimal number is 4 applications if your hair is in poor condition. If hair quality is good, mesotherapy applied individually can be used to prevent more hair loss when stress is heightened or seasonal hair loss is present.

To whom I recommend hair mesotherapy and to whom not

Mesotherapy is versatile, helping with various types of hair loss, including

  • Androgenetic alopecia: Commonly known as male or female pattern baldness.
  • Telogen effluvium: A temporary condition that is often caused by stress, shock, or a traumatic event.
  • Alopecia areata: An autoimmune disorder that leads to hair loss.
  • Like prevention of increased hair loss in autumn and spring or after childbirth

I also see patients who, for some reasons, refuse treatment with standard medications like minoxidil or finasteride. Whether it is because of contraindications to these medications due to their other health problems or fear of the side effects of the medications. For such patients, mesotherapy is an ideal way to promote hair growth and improve hair quality.
